Celebration in Dubai: Cameroon’s 53rd Unification Anniversary Honored in Style

Dubai, May 23, 2025 – The Consulate General of the Republic of Cameroon in Dubai hosted a vibrant and dignified reception at the prestigious Conrad Hotel to mark the 53rd anniversary of the unification of Cameroon. The event was presided over by His Excellency Donancier Mebouogue, Consul General of Cameroon in Dubai.

The ceremony gathered a distinguished audience, including His Excellency Rashid Abdullah Al Qasir, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office in Dubai, representing the Government of the United Arab Emirates. Close to 30 Consuls General and diplomatic representatives were in attendance, alongside entrepreneurs, friends of Cameroon, and a large cross-section of the Cameroonian diaspora in the UAE. Notably, two representatives from each of the 60 officially registered Cameroonian cultural groups in the Emirates took part, along with members of the Executive Committee of the Cameroon Association in the UAE.

In his welcome address, H.E. Mebouogue offered a brief historical overview of Cameroon’s unification in 1972. He highlighted this year’s powerful theme: “Army and Nation, united for a Cameroon turned towards peace and prosperity.” He called on all Cameroonians to rise above historical, cultural, and linguistic differences in order to build a stronger and more united nation — united in its diversity.

The Consul General also praised the strong and growing diplomatic relations between Cameroon and the United Arab Emirates, expressing his desire to see even greater cooperation in the years to come.

A Colorful Cultural Tribute

The evening came alive with a dynamic celebration of Cameroonian culture. Traditional dance performances from various regions of the country captivated the audience, while a diverse buffet of authentic Cameroonian cuisine delighted the guests. A rich selection of Cameroonian music added rhythm and soul to the celebration, echoing deep into the Arabian night and creating a warm, festive ambiance.
